Mooney co-wrote and starred in the 2017 film Brigsby Bear and co-created, co-wrote, produced, and starred in the adult animated television series Saturday Morning Star Hits! Mooney has appeared on several shows, including Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Sports Show with Norm Macdonald. He has also served as a writer and performer with the Upright Citizens Brigade.
